Love Songs

August 2, 2010

We are celebrating four years of marriage this week and I’m feeling a bit sentimental. We put a decent amount of thought into the songs we picked out for our wedding and it was nice to hear one of them today on Pandora. When we attend weddings, I am always interested to hear what the couple has picked out.

Three songs played during the sideshow that preceded our ceremony:

“Let it Be Me” (Rosie Thomas)
“Til Kingdom Come” (Coldplay)
“I Will Stay With You” (John Legend)

Our dear friends, Meredith & Brad, sang “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” during the ceremony (the only point where I got a bit teary-eyed). We ended the ceremony with “For Once in My Life” by Stevie Wonder for the recessional.

The song that was playing as we arrived at the reception was “Let’s Get Married” by Jagged Edge featuring Run DMC. It took a little convincing for D to go along with this but I specifically wanted the song because of the line, “…now they call you the preacher’s wife.” Also, our wedding was pretty much exactly like that video.

If you are so inclinded to leave a comment, I’d love to know what songs you chose for your wedding.

Love this post. Love you guys. So sad that Dan is away this week!

    Ceremony slideshow:
    “Beautiful You” (Bebo Norman)
    “Unfailing Love” (Chris Tomlin)
“On a Night Like This” (Dave Barnes)

My bridesmaids and I walked down the aisle to “All Creatures (No. 2)” by David Crowder. About 3.5 minutes into the song there’s a build up and that’s when the doors opened…it was pretty awesome. 🙂 My friend and bridesmaid, Laura, sang “How Beautiful” by Twila Paris during the ceremony. Ross and I walked back up the aisle as husband and wife to “He Is Exalted” by Shane & Shane.

We walked into the reception to “Now That We’ve Found Love” by HeavyD and the Boyz. Our first dance was to “Feels Like Home” by Chantel Kreviazuk. We had a friend man the laptop and play an iTunes playlist we spent HOURS creating. “Let’s Get Married” was definitely on that list…along with way too much Michael Jackson.

    Great idea for a post!

I love it. I know we didn’t know each other then, but it is just crazy that we were not at each other’s weddings.

You were there, of course, so you know everything was a little backwards. But I walked down the aisle to “Be Thou My Vision” and we danced our first dance to “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. I don’t know if anyone noticed, but I had a playlist going in the house before the wedding, which included:
“How My Heart Behaves” by Feist
    “A&E” by Goldfrapp
“The Part Where You Let Go” by Hem
    and
    “Childhood Dreams” by Nelly Furtado.

    Mmmm. Such good memories.

“Let’s Stay Together” was a close second for our recessional. Love that song. And I loved your wedding (backwards and all).

You are so organzied, Melissa. I am sure you will find something that is special. Pick something from an artist you both love or a classic (like Harry Conick Jr.) that you can’t go wrong with.

I remember thinking that whomever did your slideshow did a REALLY good job. It was tremendous.

I was feeling guilty because I couldn’t remember what songs we played in ours, but then I asked Shannon and she didn’t know either. We fail in the sentimental department.

I do know that Jessica Matthews killed it was we danced to “A Moment Like This” and I danced with my Mom to Boyz 2 Men’s “A Song For Mama”.

We’ll have to pull out the wedding to DVD to recall the other songs.

Happy Anniversary you to you & D!

Oh yeah, I like football (just in case my man card is now in jeopardy).

I actually remember that you guys had a U2 and Dave Matthews song in your slideshow.

Our slideshow was amazing…thanks, again. I showed it to the girls in our youth group a while ago. They loved it.

I walked down the isle to the Trumpet Voluntary. The only song I really remember being sung is “Hearts of Servants” by Shane & Shane during our candle lighting – Brad & Meredith sang it beautifully and Bali played the guitar. I know Brad sang another song when the family was being seated, but I can’t remember what it was! I also have NO CLUE what our first dance song was, but I do remember the band playing “Dancing Queen,” and they kept going…and going…and going! Maybe one of these days I’ll pull my video out and refresh my memory.

I remember your slideshow, too! Your whole wedding was great – your reception is one that totally sticks in my mind when I think of great weddings! Happy anniversary!

i dreamed for years leading up to the wedding about what songs i wanted for my wedding slideshow. then when it came time to actually pick the songs and there was millions of other details going on with wedding planning. the song choice was done hastily and i wish i could change the songs. however who has time to make everything perfect about your wedding, eh? i did like the song “i just love you” and the other two were lame. the trumpet by gordy was awesome and meredith nailed “at last.” i just watched the wedding video this month on our 3rd annv and i loved hearing simmons talent again!

krysta – love this post and love the song choices! i remember the night before the wedding we bumped into you guys in your car on your way home from the rehearsal dinner.

anyways, our wedding was a bit untraditional and we had an ariel consort (http://www.lazybullmusic.com/arielconsort.html) playing the music at our wedding. no vocals just the orchestra, it was beautiful.

    ceremony:

in christ alone (instead of the candle lighting, we did pouring of sand)

    reception songs:

lighthouse light by redbird (we brought our ipod to play this song) – rob and i danced to this song alone

when im sixty four by the Beatles – everyone else got up to dance to this one
